Game Addiction arises not necessarily because games are addictive, but is due to underlying psychosocial problems gamers.Jeroen Lemmens researcher at the University of Amsterdam PhD this fall on a study in which 851 people were followed for six months.

The main conclusion according to Lemmens is that games are not necessarily addictive. The youth who are socially less skilled, less confident and lonely are more likely to become addicted. 2 percent of all gamers is addicted, which represents about 20,000 addicts in the Netherlands. Lemmens also finds sickly gaming causes aggression. It does, remarkably enough, not matter whether violent or non-violent games are played.
